Welcome to the San Diego Highland Dance Academy, where we offer a unique learning experience that combines highland dance training with essential life skills. Our academy is dedicated to providing our students with the tools and techniques necessary to become skilled highland dancers, while also instilling in them the values of discipline, focus, strength, and respect.
At the San Diego Highland Dance Academy, we believe that dance is more than just a physical activity; it is an opportunity for personal growth and development. We have designed our curriculum to not only teach students the intricate steps and techniques of highland dance, but also to foster their personal and social skills. Through our classes, students will learn the importance of discipline in achieving their goals, how to focus their minds and bodies to overcome challenges, how to build physical strength and endurance, and how to show respect for themselves, their peers, and their teachers.
Our experienced instructors are committed to providing a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students of all ages and skill levels can thrive. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced dancer, we offer classes that cater to your needs and goals.
At the San Diego Highland Dance Academy, we are passionate about dance and are dedicated to helping our students reach their full potential, both on and off the dance floor. We invite you to join us on this journey of personal growth and discovery.

Meet your instructor I’m Trisha Boyd, founder of San Diego Highland Dance Academy.
I began Highland dance at 3 years old and spent many years performing and competing internationally, including the World Championships in Scotland.
For over 30 years, I’ve taught and mentored young dancers, helping students grow not only technically, but also in confidence, discipline, resilience, leadership, and self-belief. Over the years, my students have gone on to become champions, represent California at the U.S. Championships, perform in prestigious productions including the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and other international shows, and some have even become Highland dance teachers themselves.
After a lifetime in dance, I created SDHDA to offer something different: a modern Highland dance academy focused on confidence, mentorship, discipline, resilience, and meaningful childhood experiences that children carry with them long after class ends.
Our academy intentionally remains small so every child feels known, encouraged, supported, and challenged to grow at their own pace.
We’re not a dance studio that chases perfection — we’re a Highland community that builds confident, grounded humans. Every dancer follows the Crest of Courage Path, a heritage-rooted journey where progress is earned, celebrated, and deeply meaningful. Kids feel seen, supported, and challenged in all the right ways. Discipline feels empowering. Belonging feels real. And with Positive Moo cheering them on, courage becomes part of who they are.
